PRESIDENT KAAN: THE FEBRUARY 28 COUP DIRECTLY TARGETED OUR CIVILIZATION

Abdurrahman Kaan, Chairman of the Independent Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (MÜSİAD), issued a written statement on the anniversary of the February 28th Postmodern Coup, which took place 23 years ago.

In his statement, Kaan stated the following:

The February 28th Postmodern Coup, one of the most significant turning points in Turkey's recent history, was the most significant blow against all the sacred values and values of our nation, a nation endowed with a powerful civilization.
Our country, which has been subjected to numerous coups and memorandums throughout history, such as the May 27th and September 12th coups, entered a completely different era with the February 28th Coup, which differed from "traditional" coups. During this period, even soup kitchens were blacklisted, psychological pressure was exerted on headscarved students in persuasion rooms, and police attempted to force their heads off at university gates. With the support of major media organizations at the time, the public perception of a reactionary movement was created, leading to widespread outrage. Banks were siphoned off, the state's economy was destroyed, and the social and spiritual life of our nation was directly interfered with.

Moreover, the oppression perpetrated during this coup was not solely perpetrated by a select few; the military-led process was also professionally orchestrated by politicians, the media, the business world, universities, and professional organizations.

The February 28th Postmodern Coup was not solely directed against the Welfare Party government of the time. It was also directed against the ideology represented by the Welfare Party and the rapidly awakening and rising business community of believers and tradition-bound individuals. MÜSİAD, as the most powerful representative of Anatolian capital, was also severely affected by this process; its Chairman and members were tried at State Security Courts (DGMs) and subjected to all manner of obstructions, slander, and slander under the guise of "Green Capital."
Even during this period when it was targeted and subjected to all manner of pressure, MÜSİAD never compromised its core values. He held meetings with prominent politicians of the time to end this process, which was dragging our state to the brink of collapse. He played an active role in organizing the "Hand in Hand" rally, spearheaded by the Voluntary Organizations Foundation, to end the oppression.

The February 28th Postmodern Coup, predicted to last a thousand years, ended quickly with the help and blessings of God, the most beneficent of planners. As the saying goes, there is good in what seems evil, after this difficult period, our nation has awakened to a new dawn. Today, we are experiencing a new era in which we walk stronger with our state and our nation. With the love and spirit of July 15th, we pray to God Almighty to ensure our unity and solidarity, and pray that He will never again inflict such suffering on our nation.
