NEW MINIMUM WAGE ASSESSMENT BY GENERAL CHAIRMAN MAHMUT ASMALI

MÜSİAD President Mahmut Asmalı commented on the new minimum wage. President Asmalı said, "We are pleased that the hard work and effort of our employees is not being crushed by inflation." President Asmalı's statement is as follows:

"As MÜSİAD, we hope that the new minimum wage of 11,402 TL, which will be implemented in the second half of 2023, will be beneficial for both our employers and employees. We are pleased that the hard work and dedication of our employees will not be crushed by inflation.

On this occasion, we reiterate our full confidence that, with the impact of the measures to be taken by the new economic administration, we will gradually approach our inflation target in the medium and long term. We believe that the confidence in the real sector and markets given by the new Council of Ministers will also contribute positively to price stability through the expectations channel.

Indeed, as of May, annual consumer price increases had fallen to 39.59 percent, and producer price increases to 40.76 percent, and the gap between the CPI and PPI had visibly narrowed. These developments signaled the beginning of a much more predictable process towards achieving price stability.

However, the additional burdens that wage increases will impose on employers To alleviate this, it is essential to increase existing support and incentives. In this context, the increase from the 400 TL minimum wage support to 500 TL has been a very welcome development for our employers.

In this regard, as we have stated in the past, we reiterate that providing additional positive privileges for minimum wage workers in the industrial sector would be a significant step towards increasing our employment and production capacity in manufacturing. We also reiterate that the idea of implementing a regional minimum wage should be strongly considered as an alternative to the current national minimum wage, which falls short of reflecting regional disparities.
