Racist attitudes undermine humanity's fight against coronavirus

Adnan Bostan, Chairman of the Global Supreme Board of the Independent Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (MÜSİAD), issued a written assessment of the statement made by two French doctors who stated that vaccines and drugs developed against the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) "should be tested in Africa."

Bostan stated the following in his statement:

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which emerged in Wuhan, China, and quickly affected the entire world, has quickly plunged all countries into a serious financial and spiritual crisis.

The only way to win the war against the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the common enemy of humanity, is for humanity to put aside differences stemming from skin color, religious beliefs, and cultures and fight in unity and solidarity. We believe that during this period, humanity's sharing of information, and especially the support of other countries with all their resources and power, is essential for global solidarity and struggle. Given this situation, we find the recent proposals by two French doctors to test vaccines and drugs to be developed against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Africa shameful for all of humanity. As MÜSİAD, we see this unfortunate approach as a manifestation of the West's colonialist and self-centered practices, which remain a dark stain in its history.

As MÜSİAD, we continue our activities unabated with our two branches and nine representative offices in Africa. We maintain our connection with all of Africa through our network of organizations, particularly in Sudan, South Africa, Mauritania, Benin, Chad, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Nigeria, Somalia, and Tanzania. We affirm our unity and solidarity in Africa, as we do globally, against this pandemic that threatens humanity.

In line with this understanding, we once again condemn the racist and horrific approaches in France and call on humanity to fight the coronavirus pandemic in unity and unity.
