A cooperation agreement has been signed between the Independent Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (MÜSİAD) and the Halal Accreditation Agency (HAK) to strengthen Turkey's halal quality infrastructure, raise awareness of this issue in the business world, and ensure that our country captures a larger share of the global halal-certified product and service market.
MÜSİAD, committed to the development of our country and its vision of becoming a regionally influential and globally respected country, continues to collaborate with Turkey's leading institutions.
Finally, in this context: The agreement, signed between MÜSİAD and the Halal Accreditation Agency (HAK), aims to strengthen Turkey's halal quality infrastructure, raise awareness of this issue in the business world, and ensure Turkey's share of the global halal-certified product and service market. Attendees included MÜSİAD President Abdurrahman Kaan, HAK President Zafer Soylu, MÜSİAD Food Safety and Competition Innovation Planning Committee Chair İsa Albayrak, MÜSİAD Digital Transformation Committee Chair Fahrettin Oylum, MÜSİAD New Tourism Resources and Investments Committee Chair Muhammet Ali Özeken, and MÜSİAD Economic Security and Regulation Committee Chair Osman Çalışkan.
The agreement aims to exchange information between the institutions on halal food infrastructure and halal-certified trade, organize joint training, seminars, and workshops to increase the reputation of halal food in society, and raise awareness on topics such as halal certification and halal-certified trade both domestically and internationally.
The Halal Accreditation Agency stands out as the only institution in Turkey providing halal accreditation services. It operates in the field of halal accreditation both domestically and internationally, represents our country in halal accreditation efforts on international platforms, and leads these efforts.
"Awareness of Halal Production and Consumption Has Diminished in the Islamic World"
MÜSİAD President Abdurrahman Kaan, commenting on the agreement, emphasized the importance of halal production and consumption. Kaan emphasized that MÜSİAD approaches the issue of halal consumption with sensitivity, saying, “Unfortunately, we have lost our sensitivity to halal consumption in the Islamic world. The level of awareness among Muslims regarding halal production and consumption is unfortunately quite low. As MÜSİAD, we continue our work on this issue, based on the principle of member-country-ummah. In recent months, we also signed a cooperation agreement with the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC). Today, with the agreement we signed with the Halal Accreditation Agency, we plan to take it to the next level. We aim to raise awareness of halal accreditation through events such as seminars, conferences, and training programs that we will organize in partnership with HAK. We will also continue our efforts to accredit our members operating in these areas through our domestic and international branches.” "The Pandemic Has Enabled Us to Understand the Concept of Halal Living"
Kaan also commented on the coronavirus outbreak, which first appeared in China and quickly spread globally, saying, "Unfortunately, there are serious allegations that the outbreak that emerged in China was transmitted by wild animals. Unfortunately, Turkey is also a country that is severely feeling both the economic and sociological impacts of the pandemic. In this situation, we are more acutely aware of the importance of eating, drinking, cleanliness, and living within the halal framework prescribed by Islam. In this context, our agreement with the Halal Accreditation Agency is gaining renewed importance."
Our Agreement with MÜSİAD Will Be a Global Step
HAK Chairman Zafer Soylu emphasized the need for oversight in the halal sector. Soylu said, “In today's world, establishing standards is as important as producing the product itself. A prerequisite for establishing standards is becoming a country with a developed quality infrastructure. Our country is an economy open to the world and boasts a developed quality infrastructure through its customs union with the European Union. It is precisely for this reason that Turkey became the first country in the Muslim world to achieve accreditation in accordance with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) standards. Therefore, we value this cooperation protocol with MÜSİAD and believe it is an important step toward establishing a reliable audit/accreditation mechanism in the field of halal certification on a global scale.”
