Joint Press Release on Saudi Authorities' Approach to Turkish Products

MÜSİAD, TOBB, TESK, TİM, DEİK, TÜSİAD, TMB, and YASED issued a joint press release regarding Saudi Arabia's approach to Turkish companies and products. The statement stated, "As Turkish businesspeople, we expect the Saudi authorities to take concrete steps to resolve the problems in our commercial and economic relations." The statement included the following statements:

"As Turkish businesspeople, we attach great importance to the smooth continuation of our commercial and economic relations with Saudi Arabia.

We believe that the development and growth of the complementary Turkish and Saudi economies is possible only through the maintenance of a win-win trade relationship between our countries.

We know that trade is the most important factor that enriches people and increases prosperity.

Despite all this, we are saddened to observe an increasingly negative attitude towards Turkish companies in Saudi Arabia.

In the complaints we receive from our companies and reported in the press, we see that Saudi officials have stated that imports from Turkey are prohibited.

Furthermore, it has been reported that many Saudi companies that supply goods from our companies have been forced to sign commitments prohibiting imports from Turkey.

Recently, global logistics companies have also been warning their customers about the obstacles imposed on Turkish products in Saudi Arabia. They have advised them to be prepared for long waits at Saudi customs for products arriving solely from Turkey, and that imports from Turkey may even be blocked." It states.

Therefore, this issue has transcended bilateral economic relations and has become a problem for global supply chains.

Finally, Ajlan bin Abdul Aziz Al-Ajlan, Chairman of the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce, posted on his social media account on October 3, 2020, stating that boycotting Turkish products is the duty of all Saudi citizens, causing great disappointment among businesspeople in both countries.

All these negative developments highlighted above also apply to Turkish contracting companies, which have contributed to the Saudi Arabian economy for years and have successfully completed hundreds of important projects in the country to date. Our contractors have not been invited to important tenders for a long time, and they have not been awarded new major projects.

We are deeply saddened by the discriminatory treatment our companies have been subjected to in Saudi Arabia.

Any official or unofficial practices aimed at obstructing trade between our countries will negatively impact our commercial relations and harm the economies and people of both countries.

Reducing the supply of goods from Turkey will also reduce the business volume and revenues of Saudi companies. This will negatively impact the purchasing power of Saudi Arabian citizens, who prefer Turkish products for their quality, price, and reliability.

In this context, as Turkish businesspeople, we expect the Saudi authorities to take concrete steps to resolve the problems in our trade and economic relations.

We sincerely believe that through constructive dialogue and mutual cooperation, we can resolve all problems and overcome all obstacles together.
